Elizabeth Townsend is not a proven child of Charles Townsend, although a certain amout of circumstantial evidence indicates a strong possibility that she was Charles Townsend's daughter. Unfortunately, no will for Charles Townsend has been located, nor has any other primary evidence to prove her parentage to Charles. More research is needed to prove the parentage of Elizabeth Townsend. The Society of Mayflower Descendants will not currently accept descendants of Elizabeth Townsend (through her mother, Phoebe3 Dickinson (Samuel2, John1 (who married Elizabeth Howland, daughter of John Howland, Mayflower Passenger)), for membership due to the lack of documentary evidence on this line.

Elizabeth is said to have been a sister of General James Townsend, son of Charles Townsend of Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. There is very little evidence to tie Elizabeth conclusively to any other Townsend ancestor in the Putnam/Dutchess County area.
