The funeral of Francis Elliott occurred at the Elliott home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. A large attendance gathered at the home and followed the remains to the city cemetery. Rev. Collins preached the funeral discourse, the music being furnished by the Methodist choir. Following is a brief history of the life of the deceased: Francis Elliott was born near Raleigh, N.C. March 14, 1822, and died in Perry, IA, Nov. 21, 1902, age 80 years, 8 months and 7 days. His father having died when Francis was three years old, he removed with the widowed mother when six years of age to Wayne Co. Ind. Here his mother died when he was fourteen years of age. On December 14, 1843, he was married to Miss Lydia Ogburn. To them were born eleven children, nine of whom are still living. Mr. Elliott moved to Wayne Co. IA in 1865 and from there to Dallas county in 1868. He was raised as a Quaker but was converted through the influence of the United Brethren Church, with which he united in early manhood. He later identified with the M.E. church. Father Elliott, as he was familiarly called by acquaintances, was held in high personal esteem. He found great delight in the sanctity of God and His teachings, and will not feel strange in the courts where worship is a chief delight. A good and kind man has gone to his reward, leaving a precious heritage in the goodly memories which remain behind.
- ↑ Perry Advisor, November 25, 1902
