Avid sportsman and was justly proud of his marksmanship, both rifle and pistol. Had a lifelong interest in music, playing the clarinet in various groups until nearly the end of his life. Enjoyed chess. Learned pharmacy and practiced such in Yarmouth, Maine and then Brunswick, Maine. Retired to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in the early 1970s. Suffered loss of a leg due to diabetes. Had a prosthetic leg but hated it and preferred crutches. Enjoyed telling small children that his leg had been taken off by a crocodile. Began suffering minor strokes. Finally passed away in his sleep from multiple causes.
