"27. Capt. Joseph Phelps, b. East Windsor, Ct., 13 Dec, 1678, bapt. 4 May, 1679, … He was established and confirmed to be Lieut. by the General Assembly in May, 1730, and to be Capt. of the South Company, or trained band, on the east side of the Connecticut River in the town of Windsor, in May, 1732. … Capt. Phelps died 5 Sept., 1751. His will, dated Aug. 1, 1751. was written by his neighbor, Roger Wolcott, the Gov., or his son. Judge Roger Wolcott. It mentions his five sons, Daniel, Jerijah, Jonathan, Benjamin and Isaac. To his son Benjamin he gives all his land in Torrington, to Isaac all in Colebrook, to his daughters Abigail and Mary, each £300 'Old Tenor.' Daniel and Jerijah appointed administrators."
