Bamburgh Ward was one of the ancient divisions of Northumberland, equivalent to hundreds and wapentakes in counties further south.

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Bamburgh Ward from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"The ward is about 17 miles long and about 8 miles broad; contains seven parishes; and consists of two divisions. North and South. Acres of North [Bamburgh Ward]: 33,421; of South [Bamburgh Ward]: 35,842. Population of both: 11,244. Houses: 2,222."

Bamburgh Ward faced the North Sea and was located north of Alnwick and south of the Holy Island Sands. The area beyond stretching up to Berwick upon Tweed was originally part of County Durham.

This Ordnance Survey map of 1832 shows the boundaries of the ancient wards of Northumberland.
