A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Hoppen from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"HOPPEN, a township in Bambrough parish, Northumberland; 4¼ miles SE by E of Belford. Acres: 234. Population: 26. Houses: 6. The property belongs to W. Pawson, Esq."

Hoppen was a township in the ancient parish of Bamburgh. It became a separate civil parish in 1866. Hoppen ceased to be a civil parish in 1888. It was absorbed into the parish of Lucker.
