Uckfield Rural District was formed in 1894 following the passing of the Local Government Act of that year. It originally was adjacent to Uckfield Urban District, but the village was absorbed into the Rural District in 1934.
Also, in 1934 the parishes of Hartfield & Withyham & part of the parish of Forest Row were transferred from East Grinstead Rural District as well as a small area from East Grinstead Urban District.
In the same year the rural district was also enlarged by the addition of the parishes of Frant and Wadhurst from Ticehurst Rural District and reduced by the transfer of East Hoathly and Waldron to Hailsham Rural District.
In 1974, with the introduction of municipal districts in Sussex, the existing Rural District was transferred to the Wealden District of East Sussex.
