Reject for errors

I have reviewed your GEDCOM and see some problems that must be fixed. Your GEDCOM contains some duplicate families or some impossible dates that indicate that wrong parents or spouses are assigned to the family. We will not be able to use this file in its current condition unfortunately. We recommend that you use the Warning tab as a work list and fix the problems in your personal database, either by correcting the information or removing it. Not all warnings represent real problems, but most do. Once you've corrected the problems, remove this GEDCOM (click "Remove this GEDCOM" from the Overview tab), and upload a new one.

Please review the videos and tutorials and get familiar with WeRelate. WeRelate is not just a collection of user files like most GEDCOM sites. WeRelate is a single, shared database with a single web page created for each person and each family. As a courtesy to other users, we request that problems be fixed prior to importing your file.

After correcting problems and uploading a new GEDCOM, the next step is to review potential matches between people in your file and existing pages on WeRelate. If a person in your file already has a page in WeRelate, you must match them. We ask that you use caution and review the existing page before making changes to it. Some pages have been worked on extensively by WeRelate users. Others, quite frankly, are a mess because of earlier GEDCOMs dumped into the database. You are encouraged to help clean these up, but we ask that you include sources for your data.

If you have any questions, you can reply here. I will be watching your Talk Page. If I do not hear from you by <insert date>, your GEDCOM will be removed from the review program.

Best regards,

Reject when there are only a few things that need to be corrected

I have reviewed your GEDCOM and see some problems that must be fixed. Your file contains some some impossible dates. WeRelate is not just a collection of user files like most GEDCOM sites. WeRelate is a single, shared database with a single web page created for each person and each family. As a courtesy to other users, we request that problems be fixed prior to importing your file. Please review the items listed under the "Warnings" tab and correct the issues especially about ... You can correct the issues in one of two ways:

  1. Correct them in your desktop genealogy program, remove this GEDCOM, and export and upload a new GEDCOM. If you go this route you'll need to re-match the families when you upload the new GEDCOM.
  2. Alternatively, click on a person with an impossible date, click on the "Edit" link to edit the page, and correct the date. If you don't know the correct date, you can delete it or change it to "Abt year".

Once you have addressed the issues, go ahead and mark the file "Ready to import" again, and I will import it.

If you have any questions, you can reply here on your Talk page. If we do not hear from you by <insert date>, your GEDCOM will be removed.

Reject for no dates or places

Hello and welcome to WeRelate. Thank you for submitting your GEDCOM file. I am afraid that there is a problem. WeRelate is based on a shared database and creates a web page for each person. In your file, most of the people don't have events containing dates and places which would enable someone to identify the person. We will not be able to use this file as it is. However, we do encourage you to work on your data. You will need to add at least one date and place for most of the people in your file. When such dates are not available you may enter an estimated date, i.e. "Abt 1830". We also strongly encourage the use of sources. You may like to browse the existing pages and try creating a few by hand to get familiar with how WeRelate works. A list of recently featured pages is available from the WeRelate home page. These will provide some examples of what is possible. And, finally, as a reminder, we do not create pages for living people. If you have any questions about your GEDCOM, you can reply either here on your Talk page or at our [[WeRelate talk:Support|Support desk]] and one of our volunteers will respond shortly. Thank you, <your User name>

Reject for no sources

Hello and welcome to WeRelate. Thank you for submitting your GEDCOM file. I am afraid that there is a problem. WeRelate is based on a shared database of web pages for persons, the families to which they belong, the places to which they connect, and the sources that document and prove these connections. In the current version of your file, there are no sources for the people, dates or places that you wish to post. Without sources, we will not be able to use this file, so I am returning it to you. However, we do encourage you to continue to work on your data within your genealogy program to add sources, and then to resubmit an updated version of your file with the sources included. You may like to browse some of our existing WeRelate pages or try creating a few of your own by hand to get familiar with how WeRelate works and how to cite sources. A list of recently featured pages is available on our home page. These will provide some examples of what is possible. If you have any questions about your file or WeRelate in general, please do not hesitate to ask either here on your Talk page or at our Support desk where one of our volunteers will respond shortly. Thank you, <your User name>.

Imported without user review

Welcome to the WeRelate community. I noticed that your GEDCOM has been uploaded into the review program. Since you haven't completed the next steps, I took a look at it for you. It only needed minor fixes so I have completed them and imported the file for you.

You should know that after uploading a GEDCOM, users are expected to return and review the prospective file before it is imported. The review process flags potential problems and lets you edit the prospective pages to fix the problems. It also allows you to find matching family pages if they already exist in our database. The goal is to have only one page for each person and family.

I hope you enjoy We Relate. If you have any questions about your file or WeRelate in general, please do not hesitate to ask either here on your Talk page or at our Support desk where one of our volunteers will respond shortly. Thank you, [[User talk:volunteer username]].
