Minney Ray's Message

Well, isn't this nice. As the kind of guy who reads instructions only after he gets into trouble, it is nice to know that there is someplace to go for help.

I have about 3000 names in my TMG software program. I put about 15 or so by hand into We Relate to get a feel for it. I like what I see but if I did all 3,000 by hand I would never get finished. So I took one line and made a GEDCOM and will go take a look and see what's there after I finish here.

I'm the de facto admin for the Rootsweb County Kerry Ireland list. Not very active these days but somebody was looking for software and I found you in a file I saved last year from Family History Mag. I've already recommend you to the list.

As I get older, I'm looking for a place to deposit the basics of my information. I'm on World Connect, but that is hard for a novice to understand. And I ended up with lots of duplicates that would be difficult to prune. I'm also on a Rootsweb Free Pages site and I am putting everything up there. History, photos, images, culture, articles, scanned documents, certificates, etc. I don't even understand it.

We Relate looks like a great place to outline the basics of my four main lines (going back to 19th century only in Ireland and Poland. That will be great.

I have a couple of remote cousins who are LDS members. I think they will be excited to see this, too.

Thanks for providing this. Your relationship with the Allen County Library gives you tremendous credibility as far as I am concerned.

Who am I researching? [17 September 2008]

I just noticed your message on my page.

Among other surnames, I'm a Smelser (SCHMELZER) researcher. I contribute to: http://members.tripod.com/tracers/ and am part of the list group. Three of us are researching together on almost a daily basis (except in the summer) through private e-mail.

I was chasing Isaiah Prigmore SMELSER in 2007 when I came across the PRIGMORE family. One of our goals is to find out to whom Isaiah's father John belongs. This has been difficult because George SMELSER of Pendleton County, SC and children of Jacob SMELSER of Greene County, TN ended up in IL very close to each other. George's family stayed in IL until after the War of 1812 (George moved to MO, transporting bricks via his ferry for his home in MO), whereas Jacob's children were in IL & MO during the War of 1812.

PRIGMOREs were in Allen County, KY; which was part of Barren County. They moved on before my Jacob SMELSER moved to Hart County, KY by 1815, the county at that time part of Barren County.

I'm presently in search of a missing SMELSER c 1802. They were living in the disputed area known as the Walker Line. I'll be searching counties around Overton County, TN that are in Kentucky. Unfortunately, records were lost for Overton & one county in KY due to the Civil War.

Add to the Barren County, KY equation for me-I also have John FLINT who moved on to Caldwell County, KY. His children ended up moving to Hamilton, Adams & Hancock County, IL. Step family were in Madison to Greene County, IL and Adams County, IL. His youngest son moved to and died in Caldwell County, MO from Adams County, IL. EXCEPT-I believe my direct line went to Calloway County, KY > Hamilton County, IL > Jersey County, IL > Hamilton County, IL for Thomas, while his son William moved to Madison County, IL > Greene County, IL > Floyd County, IA > Lawrence County, MO > Jewell County, KS and lastly to Mitchell County, KS.

Hello,

Thanks for your message. I notice some of the locations you mentioned. I think some of the locations are the same ones. You might want to look on the website Heritage Quest at James Knight's (1750-1838) American Revolutionary pension file. James Knight would be a (unknown first name) Smelser's brother in law. I do not have sources on James Knight's wife's (Prigmore) family yet. I have yet to find the name of that Smelser. That Smelser married Nancy Prigmore (@ 1768- ?). One day I will find, hopefully, their father in law, Joseph Prigmore's probate in TN (@ 1721- @1828).

Hope this helps. DFree--DFree 11:42, 17 September 2008 (EDT)

A couple of possible problems I noticed [3 January 2009]

Hi Debbie,

I thought I would take a look at your duplicates list to see what I could find. Here are a couple of possible problems:

First, Person:Eli Coffey (1) and Person:Robert Whitesides (2) are listed as possible duplicates because they are both listed as husbands in the family: Family:Robert Whitesides and Elizabeth Coffey (1) because they're both male. My guess is that this isn't correct, so I clicked on the History link on Eli Coffey: here. Note that two people got merged together here: Eli and Person:Elizabeth Coffey (23). Click on the "redirected from Elizabeth Coffey" link to navigate to Elizabeth's page, then on the "History" link at the top of the page, then on the "13:23, 26 November 2007" link in the lower-left to see what Elizabeth's page looked like before the merge.

I think this is where the problem began. Eli is male, and Elizabeth is female. They shouldn't have been merged. Next week I'm going to start working on an "Unmerge" screen, but in the meantime, here's how to unmerge them:

  1. While looking at the pre-merge version of Elizabeth's page, click on the "Edit" link at the top of the page, then on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page. This put's Elizabeth's page back the way it was before the merge.
  2. Next, navigate to Person:Eli Coffey (1), click on the "History" link, then on the "11:57, 12 August 2007" link. This is what Eli's page looked like before the merge. Click on the "Edit" link at the top of the page and then on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page to reset Eli's page back to the way it was before the merge.

At this point Family:Robert Whitesides and Elizabeth Coffey (1) should have one husband and one wife, and the next morning Eli and Robert will not appear in your duplicates list.

Second, you have Person:Mary Warren (55) and Person:Mary Warren (56) listed as possible duplicates - same name, but a generation apart. The reason they appear in your duplicates list is because they're both listed as wives in Family:William Forth and Mary Warren (1). I looked at this page's history, and saw that Family:William Forth and Mary Warren (1) was merged with Family:William Forth and Mary Warren (2). I clicked on the "redirected from Family:William Forth and Mary Warren (2)" link to get to the original William Forth and Mary Warren (2) page, then clicked on the History link, then on the December 18th link to see the pre-merge version of the page. I also clicked on Family:William Forth and Mary Warren (1), clicked on the History link, then on the December 5th link to see the pre-merge version of this page.

Notice that in William and Mary (1) we have a William 1836-1878 and a Mary 1804-1875, and in William and Mary (2) we have a William 1836-1896 and a Mary 1837-1922. Note also that the two William's have different parents. I don't think these two families should have been merged. To unmerge them, it's the same trick as before: edit the pre-merge versions of the pages that you're currently looking at and "Save" them.

In addition, you also need to unmerge the two Williams: Person:William Forth (3) and Person:William Forth (4). Do this the same as Eli and Elizabeth: follow the "redirected from" link on William Forth (4) to get to the original page, then click on the History link for William Forth (3) and William Forth (4), then click on the pre-merge versions of each page, then Edit, then Save.

Now the two Mary's won't show up in your duplicates list the next day either.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank-you for getting involved in this!--Dallan 00:05, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Hello Jennifer,

Thanks for the reply. I am still learning the Werelate theory as it matures. If I remember right, I deleted my MYsource, found the Werelate LDS catalog source as a replacement. I then renamed it to the country and . system. Added information to that source, websites, etc.

I hoped for someone to "review" this community source in case I made a big mess. I made major additions. I had added Source:Freebmd.org.uk website link as a Repository to this community source, as well as the GRO website as a Repository.

Suggestions, criticisms?

Thank you, Debbie Freeman --DFree 15:58, 17 January 2009 (EST)

What you've done looks nice overall. You added Usage Tips and repositories which are always great additions! The title looks good too.
I only see a couple of suggestions:

I hope this helps, and doesn't cause confusion :>) I know that at the beginning, it can be scary to change pages. Just wait till you get a few thousand edits under your belt...--Jennifer (JBS66) 16:54, 17 January 2009 (EST)

Prigmore.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [29 January 2009]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Go to the Family Tree page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in that tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler later this Fall.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Welcome -Interesting Project! [17 February 2009]

Hi Debbie, I believe I emailed you the other day concerning whether a Jackson was connected to the Stonewall line. Was pleased to see you here.

When I saw what you are doing I remembered a document I recently transcribed. Mr. Leonardo Andrea was a professional genealogist who left a legacy of copies of his records. Someone gave me his study on the Jacksons in SC which I transcribed. (So far, I don't have copyright permission to post it.) But thought you might be interested in one comment he made.

This was written in 1949: "172a. I have now more than 100 wills of free persons of color and I am always surprised at the number of slaves the free negroes owned. Yet, agitators all tell us that all negroes were always humiliated and browbeaten. . . . Recently a northern professor was in Columbia at work on his Doctor’s degree and was using the negro question for his thesis. . . I told him to take up the free negroes and their wills, their slaves and their lands and use them for his thesis. . . He did not even believe me, even when I showed him my collection of over a 100 negro wills of free persons and also showed him the Charleston District Census of FREE NEGROES made by the county in 1823 and which showed 2300 free negroes in Charleston Dist. alone."

So I don't know which wills you are working from but judging by what I read in Mr. Andrea's papers, you've got plenty of material to work with! Are you working with any particular locality or surname? Are you planning to post the wills or just take info from them? There surely is some good way to make all that good info available.--Janiejac 09:16, 10 February 2009 (EST)

Woops, Sorry, I see now my prior correspondence was with a Deborah Harding. Sorry for the confusion. And perhaps my post also mislead Beth concerning what you were working on. --Janiejac 13:59, 17 February 2009 (EST)

I assume this refers to my merging activity. I do get into some, and sometimes will spend a day or more trying to straighten out the really bad ones, using what resources I have. Discouraging sometimes, to see how much missing information one can find on these pages just by looking in books.google.com or other widely available sources. Hi, The system didn't catch it because the parents were both dead and there were no dates on for Paul. I deleted the page. You can add a page for living people by making "Living" the given name followed by the surname. However, it is not necessary to include living persons. If you have other pages you would like deleted please enter {{Speedy Delete}} on the top line of the text box on its own line. Hope this helps. --sq 12:54, 17 June 2009 (EDT)

I still don't see my GED when I pull up my page? Can you advise? Thanks.

Problems reviewing uploaded gedcom [19 June 2009]

Hello, I'm new to WeRelate. Wow! This text is so small but I don't see how to enlarge it. Anyway I uploaded a gedcom and started to review it but the list of names on the extreme left of my screen is so far from the scroll bar on the extreme right that I can't see the list while I use the scroll bar. The window needs to be wider or the contents need to be smaller but I don't know how to fix this problem. The material seeems to be displayed with Adobe Flash Player of which I know nothing. What can I do?

Your kind welcome [20 June 2009]

Hi Debbie,

My name is Claudia Thibadeau and I also live in the Pacific NW!! South of Seattle near Fife Washington. Thank you for your offer of help. I may need it. This website works a little differently than others I am used to. I have only entered the surnames I have been researching so far and hope to load my Gedcom soon. I have one issue to resolve before I can do that. A recent trip to the Salt Lake City library has created a question with one family. I have two sons that may be the same person. I want to clear that up before posting my work on Werelate. I will have to do some work to scan my documents also so they can be available to all. I really like this concept!

Have a wonderful weekend! Thanks again, Claudia--LutheranChickadee 11:33, 20 June 2009 (EDT)

Thanks! [20 June 2009]

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for your message and encouraging me to possibly change the Randall Revell, III info. I just discovered this site and was looking around to see if any of my ancestors were on it. I've added a place, Perryhawkin, Somerset County, MD. I may be asking you how to do some things because this is harder than it looks at first. Again, thanks.

Deleting an incorrect individual [22 June 2009]

Hi Debbie,

Somehow I have added one of my great-great grandfathers as my great grandfather's wife. I need to delete him, and correct the error. Any Clue?

Have a great Monday Val DuRocher--Joyrose94 08:39, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Hi. If you are the only person to edit the page, you can delete it from the more menu. If that doesn't work, enter {{Speedy Delete}} on the top line of the text box and explain why. I'll take care of it.

Thanks, --sq 16:32, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Hello,

I'm confused. I received the following e-mail today (June 22) but I don't recognize how it has anything to do with anything I have uploaded. Can you clarify?

Cleaning up after upload [22 June 2009]

Now that my GEDCOM is loaded there are some characters on the pages that look like this: _UID: F9958A79-55BD-4F26-BB32-3E52F7E82C7A RIN: MH:IF5

Can I delete those or do they have a meaning? Thanks.--Medower 19:04, 22 June 2009 (EDT)

Yes. You can delete them. Some pedigree managers put in Unique Identifiers in the gedcom. We try to delete them but we must have missed these. --sq 12:00, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

[29 June 2009]

I've done some merges that probably don't hurt anything, but of course, the real answer here is to get more source information and untangle a couple of questions. With respect to Person:Sampson Mason (2) and Person:Isaac Mason (3), who did they really marry? I would guess that each of them married once, to some "Mary" and some "Hannah" respectively, but good data on who is not on WR presently. What we probably have is a couple of candidates based on guesses of different contributing researchers.

If this can't be pushed much further in a timely way, then probably both should be turned into the given_unknown forms of "Mary Unknown" and "Hannah Unknown" respectively, with each page citing the possible candidates for Mary and Hannah. Never the less, I think the current state is probably not that bad, since it now eliminates the obvious duplicates while leaving the unknown items more or less in plain sight.--Jrm03063 21:26, 28 June 2009 (EDT)

username [14 July 2009]

Hello, I am so excited to get started with WeRelate, I was wondering if it is possible to change my username.--Tiki 16:13, 14 July 2009 (EDT)

Stephen Parish [17 July 2009]

I wouldn't be surprised if I was the miscreant who made an improper merge.

Thankfully, it's all pretty easy to tease back apart.

I'll take a look and see if I can understand what you're saying...

--Jrm03063 21:49, 15 July 2009 (EDT)

I hope I've done what you wanted/needed - or at least, left things in a more convenient state. You will now find that Person:Stephen Parish (1) remains with his parents, while there's a new Person:Stephen Parish (5) on the family page.
Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help...
--Jrm03063 22:01, 15 July 2009 (EDT)

Feel free to remove my "disputed lineages" remarks from the two Stephen Parish pages. I just put them in there so that you could get back and forth and know which was which initially. Now that you're working with them and fleshing them out, I don't think they add anything... --Jrm03063 15:20, 17 July 2009 (EDT)

My problem is that I am very bad at figuring out the ages of the people in the pre 1850 census. I can't tell if the households of the Stephen Parish/Stephen Parrish in the 1800 Palmyra, Wayne County, PA census and the household of Stephen Parish/Stephen Parrish 1820 Rush, Ontario County, New York census have a male born about 1750 or 1770. It looks like an Elonor/Eleanor Parish is head of the household by 1830. Also so far I am the only person who has this idea on this family. --DFree 16:11, 17 July 2009 (EDT)

please advise who this family is [27 July 2009]

Hello Tiki I somehow got signed up for this family study, but don't know which of my families it relates to. I have extensive records I could perhaps contribute, but need more info. Can you tell me how I got on this study? http://www.werelate.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:DFree&diff=0&oldid=11925766. I have Holmes, Kennon, Klosson, Braviroff, and many related families. Freeman Family [29 July 2009]

I was wondering about your statement that your Freeman family was actually an Ames family. Who changed the name and why? Do you know? I have been researching the Freeman family from Bertie Co., NC then to Livingston Co., KY (originally from Bentley, Northanptonshire, England in the 15th C.).--Taylorvences 21:03, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

Hello Taylorvences,

Thanks for your question. I will try to tell you what I can. I have through paper sources traced our Freeman family to an Amos Freeman born about 1790 who married a Dorcas Parish in 1813 in Palmyra, Wayne County, PA. He was our brick wall. My father agreed to a 37 marker DNA test with the Ames group on FamilyTreeDNA. It was a 3 or less difference match with more than one Ames descendant of Robert Ames who married Rebbecca Blake (the witch) about 1660. So DNA says we are probably related somehow to the Robert Ames family.

Two family book sources mention the name change. The Parish family book, and the Freeman family book both used as WeRelate sources for the Freeman family. In one line of our Freeman family a passed down family lore had the family name changed to Freeman from Ames. That line said he changed the name because the ancestor did not want to fight against his friend the Indians (Native American) during the war. It could be the War of 1812, or earlier. No one knows yet. We have not been able to trace Amos Freeman's siblings, parents or birthplace. In the census he says he was born in Connecticut. I do not know if this is correct or not. Dorcas Parish's uncle was probably or could be the US Government Indian agent, Jasper Parrish.

Hope this helps. Does your family have a name change as well? Thanks Debbie Freeman --DFree 23:13, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

Family names [29 July 2009]

Hello again, Debbie I have been receiving updates on the family in my file, but could not remember which family it was. Is Braviroff the only family I entered? I will certainly update that info as soon as I know what I've put in to date. My other families would be Holmes, Kennon, Klosson, Wilson and quite a few others. I have a very complete gedcom on the Kennon/Holmes family that I could upload, but first I need to know if I've entered anything on them so far. Can you tell me how to access my own files so I can see what I've submitted? Thanks Jeri--Jeri 12:24, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

Hello Jeri,

On your User page on the top right is the word "more" click on that and it will bring up a submenu choose "contributions", it will then give you a list. You only have three family pages. I find this method to work well when I wish to edit pages as well. Good Luck Debbie Freeman --DFree 15:03, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

The tapestry [29 July 2009]

Hi

I notice that you've placed the Old Augusta Project page on your "watch list". Not much is going to actually change on that page since its a gateway to the rest of the project. However, if you have an interest in the project you may have an interest in The Tapestry mailing list that addresses the WeRelate activities related to the Old Chester, Old Augusta, and Southwest Virginia project---we're trying to integrate these projects into a whole simply because so many of their settlers moved from one area to the other, and beyond.

If you are interested, the list is a public Google group, to which you can subscribe at http://groups.google.com/group/the-tapestry?hl=en

Research [10 August 2009]

  Dear Debbie,
I am glad I found this website. I am new to the internet, and have been trying to find informtion on my ancestors. My father had a geneology, and as I recall, it was the family of Richard Washburn, dating back to the 16th or 17th century. I did not find Richard, but I did find quite a number of Washburns, who may or may not be relations, in colonial America and England. This is rather exciting information, and I would like to find out more. Are there any other sites to find information of this nature? Thanks.
                                                             Sincerely yours,
                                                             James Washburne--Jaywash111 11:22, 9 August 2009 (EDT)

I saw "DFree" on my page and went to her profile. Then I saw I had a msg (from 31 May) and another from 2:10 Aug 24th. I don't know if I'm correct in this. I do need a lot of help. This is a strange site!--Coedmondson 14:20, 24 August 2009 (EDT)

Yah, wiki's work a little different from other types of genealogy sites. This is a collaborative environment. It lets other users post information for common ancestors on the same webpage. You should be getting an email everytime someone edits (leaves a message) on your talk page. There are instructional videos and tutorials available at Help:Contents If you have any questions or comments, please leave me a message (volunteer admin) --sq 15:37, 26 August 2009 (EDT)

Census [29 August 2009]

Our last messages got deleted. But in response to what you said, can I suggest that you just forward me the census pages that you are working on? I'm not sure why you felt that the ones you deleted needed to be so, since based on your descriptions of them, they were set up correctly. The source for a census is the census schedule. It is not the transcriptions. We have pages for as many of the county schedules as have been set up - it's an expanding process... the FHC catalog entries all need to be converted into the standard format, and websites, when we come across them, should be added as repositories where appropriate. If you're curious as to what to do, check your contributions list - I have revised the last few census records you did to conform to the format by 1) standardizing the title; 2) removing the transcription-specific publication information; and 3) including the template and category. --Amelia 19:46, 26 August 2009 (EDT)

Debbie - it's U.S. Census Population Schedule, not U.S. Population Census Schedule. (the "population schedule" as opposed to the "slave schedule", etc.)--Amelia 01:13, 29 August 2009 (EDT)
Thank You. I find the Census Sources to be the hardest to remember to title the correct way. I will change what is on my list right now. Debbie Freeman --DFree 01:19, 29 August 2009 (EDT)

Change to US Census source page [27 August 2009]

Hi Debbie,

I was notified of a change to the 1900 (or 1910?) US Census source page (for Hamilton Co, Ohio) and I wondered why the title says "1900" but some of the other information refers to "1910".--Whitemice 21:42, 26 August 2009 (EDT)

Place of issue fields [29 August 2009]

Hi, Debbie---

A couple of the sources you've tidying up showed up on my watch list. Thanks for fixing the categories on those. However, I think you also expanded the "Place issued" fields in a way that might be confusing later on. You know that Dallan fixed it so the "Place issued" field no longer has a drop-down associated with it, right? That's because -- eventually -- he's going to try to build citations directly from the information in the bibliographical fields. And that would mean something like "Austin: University of Texas Press, 1970" -- not "Austin, Travis, Texas, United States: University of Texas Press, 1970." I assume he'll have a mechanism to pare back those unwanted fields automatically, but we probably don't want to add extra work unnecessarily. . . . --Mike (mksmith) 13:53, 29 August 2009 (EDT)

Maxeys in Texas [8 October 2009]

Hi, Debbie---

While cleaning up the GEDCOM I recently uploaded as part of my "Red River County" project, I came across your pages on Person:Turbyfield Maxey (1) and his family. (Don't know why that didn't show up as a dup in the GEDCOM review, but it didn't.) I've filled out the pages for him and his kids quite a bit, added the census listings I have, and so on. I note you included a couple of generations back for both him and his wife, Malinda; do you perhaps have sources for any of that? Or is that still all "in process"? Also, having spent most of my adult life in north Texas, I'm also familiar with CSA Gen. Samuel Bell Maxey of Lamar County. He came from Monroe County, Kentucky, but I wonder if he's a cousin you just hadn't discovered yet. Take a look at his article in the Handbook of Texas Online. I went to grad school with Louise Horton, who wrote the only biography of him (and also the HoT article). --Mike (mksmith) 10:07, 8 October 2009 (EDT)

Hello Mike, Good to hear from You. Thank You for adding more information on the Maxey family in Texas. I appreciate it. I have been meaning to for some years to start researching for the Maxey & Gregory & Wood family's in Texas. Yes I do have some sources (census, county history books, abstract books for Wayne Co., KY, etc) for the Maxey family before the generations that went to Texas. As I understand it the Maxey's migration was Virginia, to Wayne Co., KY, to Warrick Co., IN to Southern IL, and then some went to TX.

I have had to recreate my GEDCOM more than once because of computer issues the last few years. I will try to locate the Maxey family sources in my boxes. I do not have anything on Turbyfield's wife's family though.

Some years ago in Southern Illinois (in the neighboring county to Wayne Co, IL where my Maxey's settled after leaving Warrick Co., IN) I located a small book on the Maxey's family. My Great Great Grandmother is Cynthia (Maxey) Gregory, daughter of Daniel Maxey & Esther Holcomb, niece of Turbyfield Maxey. Thanks for the link to the other Maxey I will look later. Take Care, Debbie Freeman --DFree 10:53, 8 October 2009 (EDT)

Your message to me re: 2 ID names [12 October 2009]

D

I suppose this will get to you. And I assume you are somehow involved in the administration of this site. (?) When I first started I used the name PERSISTO but typed in the wrong email address for it when I sent it. So, I never got a confirmation email though it created the name anyway. So, not knowing that, I created a new user name (Persisto1) which is what you see now and the only way I can log in. I'd like to get the original name back but have no idea how to do that, since the name I want is "taken" even though by me, but not usable.

Any ideas? I just signed up for this and I must say I am impressed though overwhelmed with learning everything here. So far I have only dabbled on one article that I contributed to.

Houghtaling surname [20 October 2009]

I missed your message that you left for me in July regarding a source change on a Houghtaling page. So forgive me for not getting back to you sooner. As far as I know changing the source type is not a problem although I haven't really been doing much with the WeRelate site for quite a while so am not sure of the significance. If I notice it to be a problem I will change it.

Thanks for the welcome note [8 November 2009]

Thanks for the welcome note, Debbie.

I joined mainly because I found some errors that I thought I should correct. I don't expect to be a very active member because I'd rather put my information up on my own site, where I have much more control over the formatting, and organize it the way I want. You can see the result at my "Narrative Site" with the link on my user page.

I do believe in putting up basic data to help connect with other researchers, but I'm not eager to let others mess with my data, so I don't known whether I'll do it here. I do have it on RootsWeb in addition to my own site. I've looked at putting it on Ancestry but they don't provide any reasonable way to add notes for each person, which I think is essential, so I didn't.

Maybe I'll look at posting a GEDCOM here, when I get some time to look at how it works.
