Alfred (Fred) HORSFALL of Clitheroe b.24th November 1858 - d.?, on the 8th February 1883 at ? he married Mary (Cissie) GARNETT b.27th March 1859 - d.? January 1927
Mary is the second child of James GARNETT and Emma GARNETT nee NEWSTEAD of Waddow Hall. (James Garnett, Thomas Garnett, William Garnett, Jeremiah Garnett, Richard Garnett, Richard Garnett, Richard Garnett, John Garnett, Richard Garnett) Jeremiah GARNETT is Great Great Grandfather to both Alfred and Mary’s. Mary was the Daughter of James GARNETT, Timothy HORSFALL married Sarah GARNETT, Mary's brother Newstead GARNETT married Fred's sister Caroline HORSFALL, David SYME married Annabella JOHNSON whose mother was Martha GARNETT and Mary's niece Violet GARNETT married Geoffrey SYME.
In 1884 Captain Fred and Mary (Cissie) came out to Melbourne Victoria in his Clipper "Oakworth" to visit the SYMES from the "Melbourne Age." This was possibly the same time that Michael HORSFALL visited the SYMES so that he could also see his Nephew. The SYMES were "cousins" on the GARNETT side of the family connected in several ways. On their return the newspaper reported: Mrs. Horsfall, wife of Captain A. Horsfall, whom she had accompanied on his Australian clipper “Oakworth” arrived at Waddow Hall (the home of her father Alderman James Garnett) after twelve months absence. During the voyage a call was made at Pitcairn Island. The natives intimated to Mrs. Horsfall that she was the first white lady to visit the Island in 25 years. Fred’s Clipper “Oakworth”, an iron ship of 1242 tons was wrecked in Algoa Bay, South Africa on the 1st September, 1902 in the Famous South-East Gale of 1902.
Elwy HORSFALL said that there was a feud between Caroline GARNETT nee HORSFALL’S family and Mary HORSFALL nee GARNETT
