  4.   Margaret HORSFALL b.? 1866 - d.? 19?? (after 1953), on the 23rd April 1885 at Formby she married Frederick Morton RADCLIFFE b.16th February 1861 in Liverpool - d.? 1953 aged 92, at Godalming, Surrey,
Margaret (Maggie) HORSFALL is the sixth child of Alfred HORSFALL and Rebecca HORSFALL nee POSTLEWAITE.
Sir Frederick was the son of Sir David RADCLIFFE of Liverpool.
Margaret and Fred were married on the same day as his parents silver wedding anniversary but his father, the Mayor of Liverpool was at a presentation at the Town Hall while Margaret and Fred were being married at Formby.
Prior to her marriage Margaret lived with her parents at "Freshfields".
In 1922 they lived at 30 Chester Tce., Regent's Park. Then from the 1930's Margaret and Fred lived at "Tuesley Court" Godalming, Surrey.
Sir Frederick Morton RADCLIFFE, K.C.V.O., LL.D., was born in Liverpool and educated at Liverpool Institute. He decided on a legal career, and was articled to Sir Alfred Billson. He began practice as a solicitor in 1882.
A staunch Conservative, he sought ways to serve his party.
One of the founders of Liverpool Cathedral, Sir Frederick will be remembered for the valuable part he took in the building of the cathedral. He was among the first to give his services to Bishop Chavasse, in 1901 in order to start the project. In honour of his work, the library at Liverpool Cathedral bears his name and is fitted and furnished as his memorial.
He received his knighthood in 1922, and was made K.C.V.O. three years later. In 1937, Liverpool University, on whose council he served from 1919 to 1922, conferred upon him the honorary degree of LL.D.
, In 1887 he received from the French Government "The Order of Officier d'Academie"
His hobbies were Fishing, Travel and Reading.
His funeral service was held at Woking Crematorium and the ashes conveyed to Liverpool and interred at Liverpool Cathedral, under the window, which he gave in memory of his son who was killed in action in the 1914-18 war at the age of 21.
Every Sunday if I had cried during the week I was taken to his study before midday dinner, my knickers pulled down & I was whacked with his slipper & rice pudding for dinner- If I had NOT cried I was given a sixpence to put in my money box & got red jelly for dinner. After 18 months I was sent to boarding school in Wales & my money box was opened - it contained two shillings & sixpence farthing so evidently there were only 5 Sundays in 18 months when I didn't got the slipper!! Today’s (1990) children have no inkling of how Edwardian children were brought up.
