  10. Mary Miles HORSFALL b.? 1860 - d.19th September 1948 aged 88,
    Buried at Littlehampton, Devon,
she married Herbert William FOSTER b.? - d.? They had no children
Herbert was a member of the Indian Civil Service.

Usually the girls of the family were educated at home by a Governess, then when about 17 they were sent to Switzerland to “Finishing School”. However Mary’s mother Rebecca died when she was about 14 so Mary never went to Finishing School, but stayed and looked after the family.
Also as a result Mary would not marry until all of the others had married.
They were only married for 6 weeks, and on a train in India, while on their honeymoon, when Herbert tried to open a bed that was stuck, burst a blood vessel and died on a train. The carriage was pushed onto a branch line and she had to stay with his body until the authorities came.
Mary later went back to India to look after Hugh Stokes when her sister Rebecca died in childbirth. Later she went to "Hollenden" Exmouth, Devon to look after her father from 1913 and she stayed there until her death.
